"Take Your Child To Work" Day

Who can turn the world on with her smile?

Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?

Well it's you girl, and you should know it

With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it

You can have a town, why don't you take it

You're gonna make it after all

You're gonna make it after all

Dylan's 12th Birthday

Dylan. From that moment when we first held that tiny little thing, to this day, when she's almost as tall as me, she has brought nothing but joy and love into our lives.

The thing I love most about Dylan? She has shown me how to TRULY enjoy the things in life that make me happy. You can't sit back and watch Dylan enjoying herself (jumping up and down, laughing, giggling and clapping her hands) and not feel happy yourself.

So, to the girl who makes us so very happy, Happy Birthday!!!

Dylan's Ellis Island Trip

The 5th graders at Dylan's school went to Ellis Island yesterday. It was a big trip - chartered buses and such, so Dylan's been really excited about it.

I sent her off with her camera and instructions to take lots of pictures. That she did. I have a gazillion pictures of the bus ride - and every other 5th grader at her school. But not one single picture with her in it. I failed to spell out that it would be great if someone else could take a picture for her. At least ONE.

She did take some good pictures of the sights, though, including the back of the Statue of Liberty - a different angle from what I'm used to seeing.

Happy Easter '09

There were supposed to be three kids in this picture.

This is the best we could get of all three. Dylan being sweet. Katherine freezing. Isaac being Isaac.

(This is why many of my daffodils have perished this year.)

After church, we joined some friends at Brian and Stacye's home for dinner and an egg hunt. Definitely not an Alabama Easter...although sunny, it was windy and very cold. We actually sat around the fire after the egg hunt trying to warm up.

Hope you all had a happy Easter. I'm hoping to be able to post some warm spring pictures soon!

"I'm a Tree Hugger"

Katherine has suddenly become very environmentally conscious. She follows behind you to make sure you turn the lights off when you leave a room, checks that no one is wasting water, has sworn off plastic water bottles, retrieves paper from the garbage can to put in the recycling bin, etc., etc.

All of this is really kind of funny. I can't quite wrap my mind around our glamour queen joining the peace corp. But I practically fell in the floor laughing yesterday when she boldly announced to the family, "I'm a tree hugger now." It was a priceless moment. If only I could have captured the look on Scott's face for the rest of you!
